Copyright

What is protected on this site, what you can reuse without asking, and how to request permission or report a problem.

Last updated 6 November 2026

The recipes, notes, photographs and page design on Bowl & Loaf were made for this site. This page explains what that means in practice, in plain terms.

What is covered

The recipe text, technique notes, category essays, dish photographs and the design of these pages are the work of Bowl & Loaf and are protected by copyright. That covers the words, the pictures, and the way each page is put together.

Copyright in this site is held by the site owner and runs from the date each page was first published.

What you can do without asking

These are always fine:

  • cook from any recipe, as often as you like
  • print a page or save it for your own kitchen
  • link to any recipe from your own site or in a message
  • quote a sentence or two, with a credit and a link back to the page it came from
  • share the link on social media

What needs permission first

Ask before you:

  • republish a recipe in full on another website, blog or app
  • use the dish images in an article, video, menu or product
  • translate recipes into another language for publication
  • include the content in a book, magazine or paid course
  • feed the pages into a dataset or training corpus intended for redistribution

Recipes, methods and copyright

A bare list of ingredients and a plain sequence of steps is generally treated as a method, and methods are not protected by copyright in most jurisdictions. What is protected here is the way a method is expressed: the explanations, the order, the asides, the photographs.

So rewriting a recipe in your own words, for your own site, is fine. Lifting the paragraphs is not.

The photographs

Every dish image on this site was made for its own recipe and is not licensed from a stock library. There is no third-party licence that would let you reuse them elsewhere. If you need a picture for a commercial page, ask, or use one you hold the rights to.

If you believe something here infringes your work

Write to besttom510@gmail.com with the page address, the work you believe was copied, and enough detail to identify it. Every claim is reviewed, and material is removed or rewritten if the claim holds up.

If you are a rights holder sending a formal notice, include your contact details, a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is unauthorised, and a statement that the information in your notice is accurate.

Trademarks

Product names and brands mentioned in recipes belong to their owners and are used only to describe an ingredient.
